AJ Nguyen

AJ was born and raised in Vietnam. He’s been in the Bay Area since 2015, and absolutely loves life here. AJ began learning how to play piano at 6 years old, taking lessons from a renowned piano instructor in Vietnam.
From then on, he performed solo piano live on stage throughout his life. He also played in bands performing for local high school/university shows, prom nights, and other music related events. AJ has been teaching piano since 2018 and found his true passion.
AJ loves a variety of musical genres, ranging from classical (Mozart, Beethoven), to oldies like  The Bee Gees and Elvis Presley, to modern music  like Ed Sheeran, Maroon 5, and Taylor Swift. He also plays various international genres including Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean and Japanese music.
AJ loves teaching piano to others and letting them see that a musical instrument can bring them happiness and peace. He also likes playing a bit of guitar just for fun. AJ’s excited to get you started on your musical journey!

Alive or Dead, What Musician would you do anything to see?

Tough choice as I have many. But it would be between Mozart or Beethoven.

Greatest Musical Influence?

I’d say my parents. They are the ones who influenced and guided me to learn piano. I am really grateful for that.

Any hidden talents besides music?

Soccer any day! I love playing soccer.

What did you want to be while you were growing up?

I really wanted to become an actor

If you could have any ‘Super Power’, which one would it be?

Teleportation! Travel for free. Saves money.

If you could master any other instrument which would it be?

I’d say guitar

Have you had what people would consider your “15 Minutes of Fame”, and if so when/what was that?

In 2019, after playing piano in an event, it was a pleasure for me to have people ask to take photos and exchange contacts/social media with them.

It’s your last meal: What would it be?

My mom’s food

You are sent to a deserted island, and you only have one album to listen to: Which is it?

I think any 1900s song would do for me. Bee Gees, Elvis Presley, The Everly Brothers, Richard Marx, ….

If you could leave one lesson with your students what would it be?

Learning a musical instrument might be hard at first but please don’t give up. Hard work, motivation and consistency will pay off. The day when you improve your music skill, or when you are able to play your favorite songs, you will become addicted to music 🙂
